Entering a "blue period"
I am feeling a little down lately. I am going through some personal struggles. I was planning to get through this by getting caught up on the mundane stuff that I don't have time for. The cleaning, filing, errands... chores that get left undone due to the working full time and the artwork...
My artwork channels these feelings... dark moody thoughts and sadness can't help but surface in the paint and paper. I just didn't know if it this was a good time. I really want my work to be positive. To bring smiles to faces... not to cause wonder and worry.
My husband convinced me that if I do the art and blow everything else off, this dreadful period will pass quicker. He says some of my best work has come from times like this. He knows, he has witnessed the process. So here we go, lets make this go away.
So hear we have what has come out of this head today... this dark day.
"What Have You Lost?"
She is lost. Emerging from the clearing and finding it is still dark. What she has known for so long has forsaken her. She is asking of her, "How could you do this? Do you realize what you have given up?
"Window, scatter your light, Say I am alright please."
Well okay... deep breath.
Thank you all for faithfully looking, even when it's not as pretty...
Brandie
P.S.
On a lighter note: I have my Etsy store back up and running. I have some original pieces listed and I've decided to include my Giclee prints. This is especially nice because, I have produced several prints of the pieces lost in Omaha this past June. I'll be updating my gallery page as well (that is wow, way behind)

I think this must be one of my favorite peices of yours. I love the colors and the contrast and textures. I, too, am going through a "dark" period. Perhaps that's why I love it so, but I tend to gravitate towards darker colors.
Hang in there!

Brandie,
It's a blessing that sometimes husbands just know what's best for us and encourage us down that road.
I get reluctant to let my dark side show, too. But just because we feel blue doesn't mean we've lost our hopeful spirit!
I have also found that sometimes what I make when I'm feeling sad ends up with the most cheerful colors and that feeling spreads... or at least lifts the gloom for a while.

Hi Brandie,
This is an awesome piece! I like the way you incorporate the trees, such symbols of strength, into this piece. This particular piece reminds me of a quote:
"We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." ~Carlos Castañeda
It confirms that, although you're feeling overwhelmed, you have a strong faith in yourself & that you know without doubt that you'll be triumphant!
As the other commentator mentioned, many of us can relate to these feelings. By all means, please don't feel your being negative--more like you're being real & gaining control of the situation. I agree with your hubby's suggestion...
Take care & I'm glad you're continuing to post your creations. Thank you for that too! You & your family will be in my prayers & I'm certain/hopeful that they'll help!
Sign me...

This is a beautiful piece Brandi. It hits home for some of us, myself included. It helps to know I am not alone when I walk on the dark side of the street. The dark green colors, at least to me; suggests hope that 'things' can still grow in the dark and that we will emerge back into the light.
sincerely
Susie
